Hospitals sell the clinical opportunity - MD Preferred Real Estate Members sell the community
Â
March 5, 2010 – The healthcare community is challenged with a physian shortage of more than 75,000 nationwide. The American Medical Association predicts that by 2012, that shortfall will grow to 200,000. As medical centers, clinics and physician practices compete for a dwindling supply of physician candidates, the physician’s consumer power is at an all-time high.
Â
In response, a Chicago based team of healthcare marketing veterans are developing an online Physician Resource Center. At MD Preferred Physician Services physicians will be able to select a wide range of healthcare professionals offering Legal Services, Real Estate, Relocation and Mortgage Services, Business and Malpracitice Insurance Coverage, and NAPFA-Registered Fee Only Financial Advisors.
Â
Complicating the task that community hospitals face in recruiting and retaining healthcare professionals are several factors. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that over 40,000 practicing physicians changed jobs last year and over 26,000 residents and fellows completed training and entered the medical community. Baby Boomer physicians are retiring at a rate that exceeds the pace at which new doctors are completing their training and entering the work force. And that trend is accelerating. Young physicians completing their medical training are placing social, family and community considerations above clinical and economic factors.
Â
“The MD Preferred Real Estate Network is a welcome resource to help facilitate relocation for time-pressed physicians.” Said Karen McRae, Senior Vice President, Director of Relocation for Harry Norman REALTORS of Atlanta, Georgia. “We know that each doctor visiting our community has a number of other communities competing for his or her services. This network allows us to partner more effectively with our community hospitals in presenting a complete picture of practice opportunities including both the clinical and community components. We are committed to attracting the best and brightest physicians to the communities we serve. It’s a win-win-win for the physician, the recruiting hospital, and us.”
Â
“Physicians represent a highly desirable consumer group with strong financial power, high net worth and career stability,” explains Michael O’Malley, Project Manager for the MD Preferred Network. “But, today’s doctor is extremely busy and has little time to search for and screen healthcare attorneys, relocation specialists, insurance agents and financial advisors. The MD Preferred Online Directories are designed to expedite the search process. The reward for the preferred professionals who provide these services are deeply loyal clients and a strong referal base .”
